1. Choosing a name for my artworks (6. Nov 2024)
Choosing a name (1)
If you would like to present your work or artwork on public, you have to choose a name. First option which came to everyones mind is to use a real name. But.. do I want you to find as a first link "Zuzana Taucova wanted to change into Uma Thruman (actually here we go :)" ) or my currently stopped project of Cards for Coaches and Therapeuts?
No. I want to create a unique name which will immadiately show you my designs which can make your home stylish and playfull in the same time.
What was the process?
I was thinking which subjects or adjectives represent best the feeling behind my art. Let's have a look at the feeling first: I really like old things, vintage design but I don' like oldfashioned feeling. I like old music starting with Mozart, I like jazz and soul as well as disco or some hard music, well a wide range. I like 20's - if I could choose, I would live around 1920 and would danced in a cabaret in Berlin or Paris or Prague. Beside this I used to dance in my teenage, samba, cha cha, rumba, passo doble.. waltz etc.
From the other side I like elegance, smart combinations, and if looking to colors: in a course about interior design I have heard that we often choose home colors that fits to our clothes. Hell yes, 100% true in my case! Which color can you find on my clothes? Red, black, beige, white, cream and brown, mostly. Sometimes blue as well.
Well, how to build a name on these core facts or values? I wrote following words:
ART DECO; MOZART, KARNEVAL, CRIME, MAXIMALIST, DARK, POMPOM, MUSE, JAZZ AGE, HOCH, LOUNGE, FRECH - SASSY, MUSE, EXTRAVAGANT, TRADITIONAL, DARK, NYX, RED, EDITH PIAF, QUEEN OF THE NIGHT, CHANSON, ROYAL, TWIST, CAN CAN, FEATHER, MODUS OPERANDI, BUDOIR, GOLD, TABU, CABARET, KABINET, HOCH, STANZI..
Next step is to make combination of these words and check, if the domain and social media account are not taken already. One of my favorites names which is taken was "Velvet Dot". Why? I like velvet since my teenage, I like Velvet underground and in the Czech republlic we had so called "Velvet Revolution" on November 17th 1989 which lead to end of communist era in my home country. Well, its taken. Or black flamingo! As a symbol of roaring 20's but more luxurious or calm. Taken.
As you see, I have decided for Jazz Dot Studio. Why? I like Jazz Age, I like the mixture of elegance and party, glam feeling, but not too snobish. I like jazz music, too. I like doing things in a smart way and beeing an active creator who cares about life.
And Dot represents the graphic design which is a way for expression of all these above,
Last but not least was important for me, that the name make sence for both: english and german speakers.
